Crochet Bunny Wreath | Free Crochet Pattern

Are you looking for a quick and easy DIY Easter project? Let’s learn how to make a Crochet Bunny Wreath. I love quick home decor crochet projects like this one! You can work it up in less than an hour, and then you have something beautiful and handmade, to display in your home.

The Crochet Bunny Wreath is a great project to make, even if you’re brand new to crochet! The wreath is a beginner friendly crochet pattern, using roving yarn crocheted around a wire wreath form, and uses only single crochet. If you’re looking for something a little different than your typical crochet pattern, this project is for you!

The Bunny Wreath is fully customizable. Once the wreath form is completed, you can use any greenery and ribbon you’d like, the ears are optional as well. Get creative and add or subtract whatever you’d like, to make it your own! Continue reading below for some fun examples of wreaths I’ve crocheted in the past.

Yarn

The Crochet Bunny Wreath Pattern is written using size 6 super bulky roving yarn. I prefer Mainstays Roving Yarn from Walmart, in the color off-white. The Mainstays yarn is marked as a size 6 yarn, however, I find it to be much closer to a Jumbo, size 7 yarn. The Mainstays Roving yarn is 100% acrylic, and is currently only sold online in a four pack. It is affordable, and you can make several wreaths, so I highly recommend it for this project.

Alternative Yarn
There is a similar roving yarn from Hobby Lobby, which is classified as a Jumbo size 7 yarn. The yarn isn’t as nicely woven and I find the Ivory color to have a very yellowish undertone, whereas the Walmart brand is a nice off-white color, with no undertones.

Feel free to experiment with other super bulky and jumbo yarns. I think Bernat Blanket Extra or Extra Thick would be a fun alternative, or even the chain style yarns, such as I Like Big Yarn from Lion Brand Yarn.

I’ll add a few roving yarn examples to my Amazon Storefront, but please keep in mind they haven’t been tested for color or quality.

Sizing

The Bunny Wreath shown, is made with an 8 inch metal wreath form.

The finished size is approximately 10 inches across the middle of the wreath and 16 inches tall, including ears.

You can experiment with any size metal or foam wreath form you’d like. Simply follow the pattern instructions below, until the metal or foam is completely covered.

Bunny Ears

The Bunny ears are my favorite part of this wreath! You have a few options.

– You can make your own, very easily, with floral wire, twine, and a glue gun. I’ll show you how to make your own ears in the instructions and video below.

– You can purchase a pre-made Bunny Ear pick from Hobby Lobby (as shown below). If you choose this option, you’ll need to cut the ears off the pic and hot glue or wire it on the wreath, after you crochet around it. I removed the included greenery and used my own.

– One last option is to purchase a full bunny wreath form, which I also found at Hobby Lobby, (shown below). If you choose this method, you’ll need to wrap the ear portion with twine, before crocheting around the wreath. Hot glue one end down and wrap tightly and evenly all the way around both ears. Then, glue the end down to secure.

Note: This option is not included in the video portion, as I found the form after completing the video tutorial. Although the finished product looks amazing, it was an all in one piece, making it a lot more difficult to wrap the ears with twine, and took much longer. It’s not my top choice if time is an issue.

Embellishments

You can choose any embellishments that you’d like. I chose cotton pods, lamb’s ear, and a neutral wire rimmed ribbon for my Crochet Bunny Wreath. The extra embellishments, such as floral picks, cotton pods, and stems, can be clipped off with wire cutters, and then hot glued on.

Most embellishments were from Hobby Lobby, but you can find similar on Amazon, JOANN, Michael’s, Walmart, etc. You can shop my affiliate links here.

You can also find an entire list of supplies in my Amazon Storefront.

Below are some wreaths I’ve made in the past using the same idea as above, but with a foam wreath form. I wrapped floral wire around the faux florals and bow, to secure in place, and hot glued the loose pieces on.

Crochet Bunny Wreath Instructions

Notes
– The same method can be used with larger wire or foam wreath forms, by adding additional sc on rnd 1.

Join yarn to hook with a slip knot.
Rnd 1. Work 30 sc around wreath form (or until wreath form is fully covered), fasten off using the invisible join method. (30sc)

Weave in the loose ends using your finger or a crochet hook. The wreath portion of your Crochet Bunny Wreath is complete, follow instructions below for creating the bunny ears and adding embellishments.

Handmade Bunny Ears

For the bunny ears you can use the pre-made Bunny Ear pick from Hobby Lobby, the full bunny wreath form, which I also found at Hobby Lobby, or you can create your own using floral wire and twine. You can also use the end of a faux floral stem, which is what I used for the smaller ears shown below. The stems were already wrapped with floral paper, which was nice, and a time saver!

The Crochet Bunny Wreath ear options.

Reference the video here for a visual tutorial on how to create the bunny ears.

How to create bunny ears with floral wire and twine
– Cut approximately three, 14 inch strands of floral wire, for each ear. Twist the ends of the three pieces together, and wrap them tightly together with another piece of floral wire.
– Then, wrap the wire tightly with twine, hot gluing the end of each piece of twine to hold in place as you wrap.
– Finally, shape the ears, and hot glue the ears on the wreath in desired location.

Adding The Embellishments

Reference the video here

I used floral picks and cut the individual lamb’s ear and cotton off each pick, then placed in the desired location with hot glue. I created a basic bow with wire edged ribbon, and hot glued it on.

Play around with placement and different florals, the options are limitless. To create a hanger, I added a twine loop to the top of the wreath and weaved the twine around a few crochet loops, in the back of the wreath, to secure.

Your Crochet Bunny Wreath is complete, enjoy!!
