Yarn Suggestions For The Jumbo Crochet Christmas Stocking

The Puff Stitch Jumbo Crochet Christmas Stocking pattern is written using Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick & Quick. This is a size 6, super bulky yarn.

The colors shown are Cranberry, Kale, and Starlight. If you look closely, the color Starlight has a beautiful gold tinsel woven throughout. Wool Ease T&Q offers many great colors, perfect for Christmas and Winter. A few other colors I like are Red Beacon, and Fisherman.

Below are the suppliers I recommend:

Alternative Yarn

Feel free to experiment with different yarns, but please note the gauge may turn out slightly smaller or larger depending on what you use. If you change the yarn size of the project, be sure to adjust your hook size accordingly. For this pattern I recommend a size 6 yarn, or two strands of size 5 yarn held together.

I haven’t tried any yarn alternatives, for this specific pattern, but I think two strands of Lion Brand Yarn Hue + Me might work nicely, or any wool blend yarn that would give a nice organic texture.

Special Stitches

9 Loop Puff Stitch (ps)
Crochet puff stitches are a series of unfinished half double crochet stitches that are worked together. They pop out on the backside of your work. For this tutorial, we’re going to use 4 half double crochets, to create our puff stitch. Some puff stitches require a chain 1, to finish off the stitch, but this pattern goes right into a single crochet in the next stitch.

Tip: Work with loose tension and pull loops up to the height of the working row.

Step 1: Yarn over, insert hook in indicated stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop (3 loops on hook).
Step 2: [Yarn over, insert hook in same stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop]3x (9 loops on hook)
Step 3: Yarn over and pull through all nine loops on hook
