Tags & Embellishments
Before we jump into the 15 Free Crochet Christmas Patterns, I want to quickly highlight something I get asked about all the time: my tags and embellishments!
Adding cute greenery, wooden tags, or leather screw-on labels is one of my favorite ways to elevate a crochet project. Many of the 15 Free Crochet Christmas Patterns in this roundup really shine because of these little finishing touches.
I put together a full blog post that breaks down every type of tag I use. You can find the detailed guide here. But here’s a quick overview:
– The vegan leather and wooden Christmas-themed tags (shown below) are from Savlabot.
– The Ultrasuede and wooden custom logo tags that I use on my non-seasonal items are from Angie & Britt & Grain Deep. Both shops also offer some fun seasonal tag designs too.
For the floral embellishments and bells, I used Christmas greenery and floral picks from Hobby Lobby and Michaels. I simply use wire cutters to separate the picks into smaller pieces and hot glue them to the finished project.
You’ll also find more pattern specific info and suggestions as you go through the list below.

#1, 2, & 3 – Crochet Christmas Ornaments

First up in our lineup of 15 Free Crochet Christmas Patterns: Christmas ornaments – a fan favorite!
I have three patterns for you to choose from. Two are worked in the round and one is worked in rows, so you can pick the style you enjoy most (or you can mix and match for a beautiful, coordinated display).
Each design is made to stretch over a glass or plastic ball ornament and comes in two sizes. They’re also super easy to personalize with your favorite tags, greenery, or embellishments.
# 4 & 5 – Decorative Bobble Christmas Trees

Next up in our roundup of 15 Free Crochet Christmas Patterns are two of my absolute favorites: the Crochet Christmas Tree Garland and the Decorative Bobble Trees (set of 3).
Both are great advanced beginner projects, and the bobble stitch adds a fun, textured look that’s perfect for holiday decor. Working the bobble stitch is a small skill bump, but so worth it!
For both patterns, I love using Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick. The colors shown are Starlight, Kale, and Cranberry – a gorgeous trio for Christmas makes.
#6 & 7 – The Puff Stitch Crochet Stocking Patterns

Next in line are two puff stitch stocking patterns – together giving you three beautiful sizes to choose from: the mini, the regular, and the brand-new jumbo version.
The Puff Stitch Crochet Stocking Pattern (mini and regular) is rated advanced beginner and includes two fun sizes. The mini is perfect for holding a gift card, treats, or small items, while the regular size makes a gorgeous classic mantle stocking.
The Jumbo Puff Stitch Stocking Pattern is a separate pattern that creates an oversized, statement piece – perfect for holding extra-large stocking stuffers and goodies!
All three stockings are worked flat in one piece and then seamed, featuring the puff stitch along with a few unique textures to make them stand out.
For yarn I use Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick. The colors pictured are Starlight and Kale, but Cranberry is also the perfect shade for Christmas makes.
#8 – The Doorknob Hanging Basket Crochet Pattern

Coming in at #8 in our 15 Free Crochet Christmas Patterns roundup is the Doorknob Hanging Basket Pattern!
If you’re looking for something a little different, this one is perfect. It’s a fun alternative to a traditional Christmas stocking and it’s versatile enough to use year-round.
I especially love this idea for older kids or anyone living in a dorm or small space. Simply hang this cute basket on their doorknob Christmas morning, and afterward, it doubles as handy storage for their room!
The basket is worked in the round using the lemon peel stitch and is rated advanced beginner. I use Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick, and the color shown here is Fossil.
#9 & 10 – Crochet Plant Pot Covers (AKA Plant Sweaters)

Next up, patterns #9 & #10 are all about cozy greenery: the Mini Crochet Planter Cover Pattern (aka, The Pirouette Planter) & the Chunky Crochet Plant Pot Covers (Sweaters).
These are such a fun way to dress up a cute faux tree or planter! Both planters are rated advanced beginner, worked with basic stitches, and comes in three versatile sizes.
For the Pirouette planter I use one strand of super bulky yarn, and with the Chunky Sweater Planter I use two strands of super bulky yarn, which gives it an extra sturdy and chunky feel.
Both patterns call for Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick, and the colors shown are Kale, Starlight, Cranberry, and Fisherman.
I also love adding a finishing touch with the cute tags from Savlabot, which instantly make the planters look polished and gift-ready.
#11 – The Picot Placemat Crochet Pattern

Pattern #11 in the 15 Free Crochet Christmas Patterns lineup is the Picot Placemat Pattern.

The Picot Placemat Pattern is rated advanced beginner, worked in the round, and features a charming picot border that adds just the right amount of detail.

Pattern #15 is a fun and beginner friendly project, even if you’ve never crocheted before. This DIY Christmas Wreath is made by simply wrapping a strand of garland or loopy yarn around a Styrofoam wreath form.
The wreath shown above uses a gorgeous loopy garland from Hobby Lobby, though you can find similar at Michaels.
