Five bunny baskets designed from The Bunny Basket Crochet Pattern. Two baskets worked up in size small and three in the mini size. The colors are in grey and beige yarns. One small basket has faux pink flowers and greenery, and one faux mini basket has speckled easter eggs in it. The rest of the baskets are empty. The baskets are sitting on a white ledge.

The Lil Bunny Basket Crochet Pattern | Free Crochet Pattern

The Lil Bunny Basket Crochet Pattern is the perfect crochet project for Easter! This pattern has been a favorite of mine for years, and I’m happy to finally share the pattern and full video tutorial on my blog.

The Bunny Basket is worked in the round, using two strands of super bulky yarn held together, and aside from the cute, furry tail, the pattern is worked in one continuous piece, no fastening off for the ears!!

The Bunny Basket Crochet Pattern is rated intermediate, and uses very basic crochet stitches. You’ll work in the round, and I’ll show you a few tips and tricks to make it come together even better!!

The hardest part is getting used to working with two strands of super bulky yarn held together. It can be tricky at first, and a little tough on your hands, but you’ll definitely get used to it, if it’s new to you.

Display Ideas For The Lil Bunny Basket Crochet Pattern

The Lil Bunny Basket Crochet Pattern isn’t your typical Easter basket. I like to use mine as more of a decorative piece. It’s probably not something you’d want your child to carry around and collect candy and eggs with, as it’ll lose it’s shape.

I like to put my on a wooden tray that stays on my kitchen counter, and gets switched out seasonally.

I used random faux flowers, leaves, and succulents then tucked them into the basket with some Spanish moss to fill in the gaps. You can also use a piece of floral foam and hot glue to make it more secure.

If using a real plant, you can line it with a small piece of plastic to protect the yarn, and remove the plant when watering. Easter candy or eggs are a great filler option as well!

Yarn Suggestions For The Lil Bunny Basket Crochet Pattern

The Lil Bunny Basket Crochet Pattern is written using size 6 super bulky yarn (two strands held together). I prefer Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick.

Tip: When using two strands held together, you can use one skein and pull from the outside and center of each skein. I found this yarn easily accommodated that method, without tangling much.

For the tail I used Lion Brand Go For Faux, in the color Baked Alaska.

You can find a full list of supplies on my on my Amazon Storefront here.

For the look below, I used one strand of Cozy Yarn by K+C (exclusive to JOANN), in the color Seashell. The gauge is definitely smaller, but I love how the mini size worked up in this yarn! I filled them with mini potted succulents I found at Michaels, and added Spanish moss to finish them off.

The Bunny Basket Crochet Pattern, set of three, lined up on a white tabletop, worked up in size mini, in pink yarn, with faux green succulents inside and a big white fluffy faux fur tail.

Cute Tags

I created a blog post on the different crochet tags I use. The full post with extensive detail can be found here.

I received these cute Easter themed tags from Savlabot, on Etsy. They look adorable on the Lil Bunny Baskets, and really step them up a notch!

Savlabot uses vegan suede tags, some are sew on, and some are screw on. She makes amazing seasonal tags, and I believe she also accepts custom designs.

I’ve used the mini (shown below) and large, rivet style tags from her shop. The colors featured below are Caramel, Latte, and Tawny.

They are attached with Chicago Screws, which I purchase on Amazon. I get the 5x10mm in the color Bronze.

Gauge | Working in the Round

First 2 Rounds in Pattern = 3 ¾ Inches with L Hook
Please be sure to check your gauge before starting, as tension can vary greatly from person to person and depending on the yarn used.

Special Stitches

Treble or Triple Crochet (tr)
Yarn over twice, insert hook into stitch and draw up a loop (4 loops on hook), yarn over pull through first two loops on hook, yarn over again and pull through next 2 loops on hook, yarn over pull through last two loops on hook.

Special Stitch: No-Cut Join Method
Instead of joining the end of a round with a slip stitch, remove hook from loop. Insert hook from back to
front under both bars of first stitch of round. Put loop back onto hook and draw through to the back. Pull
loop tightly to draw stitches together, then pull working yarn to draw loop back to usual size.

Written Instructions For The Lil Bunny Basket Crochet Pattern

Notes
– Pattern is worked holding two strands of yarn together.
– Beg chs of each rnd do not count as 1st st, join each rnd in 1st stitch, not beg ch.

Starting Ears – Size Mini

– Make sure you TURNED your work as stated in the previous rnd above, you’ll be working the last rnd on the wrong side, this will allow the right side of the ears to face you when you turn the basket back to the right side after finishing the final rnd.

– When you turn your work, the last st of the previous rnd will now become the first st of the new rnd.
– I designed the bunny ears to slightly curl down at the top, but they should be a bit flexible to mold how you like.  If your ears are curling and puckering too much, try working the sts a bit looser.
– You’ll work the 1st ear starting at the beg of the rnd, and complete the 2nd ear at the end of the rnd.

Fasten off, weave in loose ends, and move to tail instructions below.

Tail Instructions

– I used a small amount of Lion Brand Go For Faux following the instructions below & an L hook.
NOTE: Lion brand makes Go For Faux in bulky & jumbo weight. If you have jumbo weight, it is actually three strands raveled together, you can easily unravel the individual strands and follow the pattern as is.

– You can also use a felt ball, cotton ball, make a pom pom with scrap yarn, the possibilities are endless!
– You can use a hot glue gun, or use the tail ends to attach the tail.

Size Mini
Rnd 1. Leaving a long tail end, create a magic circle, ch1, work 6 hdc in circle, do NOT join. (6hdc)
Rnd 2. hdc2tog around, join with sl st in beg hdc. (3hdc)

Size Small
Rnd 1. Leaving a long tail end, create a magic circle, ch1, work 10 hdc in circle, do NOT join. (10hdc)
Rnd 2. hdc2tog around, join with sl st in beg hdc. (5hdc)

Finishing Off Tail

Starting with beg tail end, cinch tail to close circle (pull gently as the Go For Faux yarn breaks easily), weave through a few stitches to secure closed, do NOT fasten off unless you are hot gluing in place. Pull beg tail up through top center opening of circle to use for securing to basket later.

Take ending tail, weave in and out around last rnd of sts, pull tail end gently to cinch closed and weave through a few stitches to secure circle closed, do NOT fasten off.

Make sure beg and ending tail are both positioned on the outside of your work (it’ll look like a mini pom pom shown below), use the tails to attach to the basket.  I positioned the tail where I wanted it, using a tapestry needle, I pulled each end through to the inside of the basket, knotted once or twice, then weaved them in so they were hidden.

Note: If using hot glue, weave in loose ends and hot glue in place.

Your basket is complete, enjoy!!
