Yarn

The Boxy Basket – Square Crochet Basket Pattern is written using Bernat Maker (two strands held together). This is a size 5, bulky, tube style yarn made of cotton on the outside and nylon in the center of the tube.

I love Bernat Maker, they recently re-branded and have a bunch of new colors! It has a tendency to sell out often, so I recommend stocking up. The skeins are very large, so I feel like you get a lot for the price.

Below are the suppliers I recommend:
Yarnspirations
JOANN
Annie’s Craft Store
Amazon

Yarn Alternatives

I’ve used a few alternative yarns that also work well. Feel free to experiment, but please note the gauge may turn out slightly smaller or larger depending on what you use. The best way to create a sturdy basket is to use a nice thick yarn and tight stitch.

Below is Cover Story™ Lazy Days Thick & Quick® Yarn (1 strand in the color Cream, Sandstone, & Olive)
– The gauge is just slightly smaller than 2 strands of Bernat Maker held together.
– This is by far my favorite yarn alternative for these baskets! It’s very sturdy and structured, and the color options are amazing.

The Square Crochet Basket Pattern worked up in a set of three nesting baskets in the colors cream, taupe, and olive. The three baskets are nested together and sitting on a white table next to a decorative wooden tray with a pothos plant.

Below/Top is KnitzNPurlz 5mm Cord (1 strand in the color Vanilla)

– KnitzNPurlz can be purchased on Etsy & her website.
– The gauge is just slightly larger than 2 strands of Bernat Maker Home Dec held together
– I love the finished product with this yarn, it’s stretchy and sturdy.
– She also has amazing t-shirt yarn that would work great too, the gauge will be larger, as it’s a size 7 yarn

Below/Bottom is Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick, Size 6 (1 strand in the color Fossil)
– The gauge is about ½” larger (for both length and width measurements).
– You’ll notice this yarn isn’t as structured looking and gives the basket a softer feel

Below/Top is K+C Cozy, Size 6 Yarn (1 strand in the color Seashell)
– I purchased this yarn from JOANN’s
– The gauge is about ½” larger (for both length and width measurements).
– It’s a wool/acrylic blend that gives a beautiful, soft, plush feel.

Below/Bottom is Lion Brand Hue & Me, Size 5 Yarn (2 strands held together in the color Love Song)
– The gauge is about ½” larger (for both length and width measurements).
– The wool in this yarn gives the basket a softer, more natural feel.

Screw on Tags

I recently created a blog post on the different crochet tags I use. The full post with extensive detail can be found here.

– For the crochet square basket pattern, I used Ultrasuede, screw on, custom logo tags from: Angie & Britt
– I’ve also used tags from Savlabot & Grain Deep, in the past.
– You’ll also need Chicago Screws to attach the tags.
