Yarn

The Little Handle Basket Crochet Pattern is written using size 6 super bulky yarn (two strands held together). I prefer Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick. The colors shown are Grey Marble, Oatmeal, and graphite.

Below are the suppliers I recommend:
Lion Brand Yarns
Amazon or Like To Know It (LTK)

Yarn Alternatives

Secondly, as my yarn choice for The Little Handle Basket Crochet Pattern is Cover Story™ Lazy Days Thick & Quick® Yarn (two strands held together).

– The gauge is just slightly smaller than 2 strands of Lion Brand Wool Ease T&Q held together.

Below are the suppliers I recommend:
Lion Brand Yarns
Amazon or Like To Know It (LTK)

Feel free to experiment with other yarns, but please note the gauge may turn out slightly smaller or larger depending on what you use. The best way to create a sturdy basket is to use a nice thick yarn and tight stitch.

Screw on Tags

I recently created a blog post on the different crochet tags I use. The full post with extensive detail can be found here.

– For The Little Handle Basket Crochet Pattern, I used Ultrasuede, screw on, custom logo tags from: Angie & Britt
– I’ve also used tags from Savlabot & Grain Deep, in the past.
– You’ll also need Chicago Screws to attach the tags.

A close up photo of The Little Handle Basket Crochet Pattern worked up in the tray size in the color grey. Styled on a countertop with an aloe plant, candle, and mini succulent inside. The photo is emphasizing a screw on leather tag with The Simply Made By Erin logo engraved on it and attached to the side of the basket.

Gauge | Working In The Round

First 2 Rounds in Pattern = 3.5 – 3.75 Inches with L Hook
Please be sure to check your gauge before starting, as tension can vary greatly from person to person and depending on the yarn used.

Special Stitches

Special Stitch: No-Cut Join Method
Instead of joining the end of a round with a slip stitch, remove hook from loop. Insert hook from back to
front under both bars of first stitch of round. Put loop back onto hook and draw through to the back. Pull
loop tightly to draw stitches together, then pull working yarn to draw loop back to usual size.
Video Instructions Here

Chain Space (ch-sp)
A chain space is the space/gap in your work that is created by making a chain. The space is located below the chain. Normally you’d insert your hook into the front and back loops of the stitch, but when you work into a chain space you insert your hook into the space underneath the chain.

Tips & Tricks

The key to having a sturdy basket it to create a very tight stich by using a small hook in comparison to the yarn size.  The completed basket should be very sturdy, yet flexible.  Over time it can become misshaped.  You can easily re-shape with your hands.  I also find it helpful to form it around a heavy bowl about the same size, then remove the bowl to reveal a nice, new, even shape.
