Yarn
The Color Block Crochet Basket Pattern is written using size 6 super bulky yarn (two strands held together). I prefer Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick. The colors shown are Fisherman and Fossil.
Below are the suppliers I recommend:
Lion Brand Yarns
Amazon or Like To Know It (LTK)
Yarn Alternatives
Secondly, as my yarn choice for The Color Block Crochet Basket Pattern is Cover Story™ Lazy Days Thick & Quick® Yarn (two strands held together).
– The gauge is just slightly smaller than 2 strands of Lion Brand Wool Ease T&Q held together.
Below are the suppliers I recommend:
Lion Brand Yarns
Amazon or Like To Know It (LTK)
Feel free to experiment with other yarns, but please note the gauge may turn out slightly smaller or larger depending on what you use. The best way to create a sturdy basket is to use a nice thick yarn and a tight stitch.
Screw on Tags
I recently created a blog post on the different crochet tags I use. The full post with extensive detail can be found here.
– The Color Block Crochet Basket Pattern, I used Ultrasuede, screw on, custom logo tags from: Angie & Britt.
– I’ve also used tags from Savlabot & Grain Deep, in the past.
– You’ll also need Chicago Screws to attach the tags.

Sizing
The Color Block Crochet Basket Pattern is offered in three sizes.

First 2 Rounds in Pattern for Basket = 3.75 Inches with L Hook
Please be sure to check your gauge before starting, as tension can vary greatly from person to person and depending on the yarn used.
Special Stitches
Special Stitch: No-Cut Join Method
Instead of joining the end of a round with a slip stitch, remove hook from loop. Insert hook from back to
front under both bars of first stitch of round. Put loop back onto hook and draw through to the back. Pull
loop tightly to draw stitches together, then pull working yarn to draw loop back to usual size.
Video Instructions Here
Chain Space (ch-sp)
A chain space is the space/gap in your work that is created by making a chain. The space is located below the chain. Normally you’d insert your hook into the front and back loops of the stitch, but when you work into a chain space you insert your hook into the space underneath the chain.
Invisible join
After completion of the last stitch of the round, fasten off. With a tapestry needle, weave tail end under both loops of the first stitch of the round. Next, weave through the back loop only, of the last stitch of the round. Weave in tail.
Tips & Tricks
The key to having a sturdy basket it to create a very tight stich by using a small hook in comparison to the yarn size. The completed basket should be very sturdy, yet flexible. Over time it can become misshaped. You can easily re-shape with your hands. I also find it helpful to form it around a heavy bowl about the same size, then remove the bowl to reveal a nice, new, even shape.

I love your color block baskets. Actually, I love all your patterns. I’m a bit confused tho on the tray basket on the color block set. It looks like there are three different colors, but the directions only show two different colors. Am I missing something? Thank you!
Erin
Hi Tina and thank you! The tray is only two colors. The taller, medium size basket is three colors.
Mary Eason
Let me just say, I love all your stuff!!! On this particular post, you are showing 3 sizes of baskets. The materials list shows 50 – 130 yards of oatmeal. Is that to do all 3 baskets or just the smaller basket? I am nowhere near a store of any kind and I’m trying to put an order together. What is the 3rd color used in the taller basket? Thank you, Erin.
Erin
Thank you for your kind words!! The taller basket colors are Fisherman, Grey Marble, and Fossil. The largest basket takes a total of 130 yards of yarn, the smallest is 50. For the large basket, you will have enough if you get one skein of each color. The skein of fossil is slightly smaller than the other colors, so you may get two skeins, if you want to make more than one basket.
