How excited are you to try the next FREE crochet pattern in the crochet basket series?!! We’re on basket #7, The Crochet Nesting Bowl Pattern, and it’s the last basket pattern of the series, for now! You aren’t going to want to miss this set of six nesting bowls.
The Crochet Nesting Bowl Pattern is rated advanced beginner and worked in a continuous round, using only half double and single crochet stitches. The pattern comes in a set of 6 baskets/bowls, starting with a tiny bowl and working your way up to the size large. The bowls nest nicely within each other and can also be separated to hold odds and ends.
In the written and video instructions you’ll learn how to increase, work in a continuous round, and create an invisible join. We’ll go over all six sizes and talk about some of my favorite yarns to use, as well as some tips and tricks.
There are so many fun color combinations I can think of, so let’s get started on The Crochet Nesting Bowl Pattern!
Styling Ideas for The Crochet Nesting Bowl Pattern
With six fun bowl sizes, The Crochet Nesting Bowl Pattern is not only stylish, but functional. You can use it as a decorative piece on your shelf or sideboard, or an organizational catch all basket.
– I love to use the three smallest sizes on my desk to hold stitch markers, buttons, and other supplies.
– The nesting baskets also make a great stacking toy for toddlers. Just be sure to leave the tag off.

Yarn
The Nesting Basket Pattern is written using size 6 super bulky yarn. I prefer Cover Story™ Lazy Days Thick & Quick® Yarn.
Below are the suppliers I recommend:
Lion Brand Yarns
Amazon or Like To Know It (LTK)
Below are some fun color combinations I made with Cover Story™ Lazy Days Thick & Quick® Yarn.

Yarn Alternatives
My second yarn choice for The Nesting Bowl Pattern is Big Twist T-Shirt Yarn, exclusive to JOANN. This yarn comes in some amazing fluorescent colors. It works up a bit larger than the recommended yarn, the gauge was about ¼ inch larger. It’s also much stiffer than the recommended yarn, and is a bit harder on your hands. The yarn isn’t as soft and doesn’t glide as easily on the hook.
I also tried Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick & Quick. It was a little floppy, so I went to down to a size K hook. It looked really nice, however, it was a little difficult to work with the small hook, as the hook got caught easily on the yarn fibers.

Feel free to experiment with other yarns, but please note the gauge may turn out slightly smaller or larger depending on what you use. The best way to create a sturdy basket is to use a nice thick yarn and tight stitch.
Screw on Tags
I recently created a blog post on the different crochet tags I use. The full post with extensive detail can be found here.
– For The Crochet Nesting Bowl Pattern, I used Ultrasuede, screw on, custom logo tags from: Angie & Britt.
– I’ve also used tags from Savlabot & Grain Deep, in the past.
– You’ll also need Chicago Screws to attach the tags.

Special Stitches
Special Stitch: Invisible Join
After completion of the last stitch of the round, fasten off. With a tapestry needle, weave tail end under both loops of the first stitch of the round. Next, weave through the back loop only, of the last stitch of the round. Weave in tail.
Tips & Tricks
The key to having a sturdy bowl it to create a very tight stitch by using a small hook in comparison to the yarn size. The completed bowl should be sturdy, yet flexible. The bowls should fit snugly within each other.
It’s important to maintain a tight and even stitch throughout each size, so they nest nicely together. The flexibility of the baskets should give you a little wiggle room, but if you find the height is slightly off, feel free to add or subtract a round of single crochet.

Hi there! I love these bowls. Can you tell us the exact colors you used for the earth colored ones? Is it mustard, pumpkin brick?
Thank you
