12 Free Crochet Basket Patterns | Let’s Get Organized

Looking for a quick and easy crochet project? Let’s get organized with 12 Free Crochet Basket Patterns! The patterns range from beginner to intermediate level, and most come with a full video tutorial to help you along the way.

Crochet basket patterns are my favorite item to crochet. I’ve been crocheting baskets since the very beginning of my crochet journey, back in 2011.

Over the years I’ve learned tips and tricks that I’d love to share with you. The crochet basket series just wrapped up, which came with 7 unique crochet basket patterns, and this round-up will include an additional 5 patterns!!

Baskets are timeless patterns that can work up quickly, offer storage and organization, but also look amazing styled in your home. The size options and uses are endless. Want to make them seasonal, simply switch up the yarn colors and contents.

Additionally, most of the basket patterns below, work up in about an hour or less, making them quick projects to add to your crochet pattern library.

#1 – The Boxy Basket | Square Crochet Basket Pattern

First up is The Square Crochet Basket Pattern, aka, The Boxy Basket. Included in the pattern is a set of three nesting baskets that are square shaped, with a slightly round opening.

The combination of The Herringbone Half Double Crochet Stitch, paired with some simple crochet techniques, gives this Square Crochet Basket Pattern, a beautiful, modern design, that not only looks stylish. but is also practical.

The Boxy Basket is rated intermediate, and calls for Bernat Maker (two strands held together) or Cover Story™ Lazy Days Thick & Quick® Yarn (one strand). I love these yarns. They’re a tube style yarn, and have a ton of amazing colors to choose from!

#2 – The Basic Basket Crochet Pattern

Secondly, is The Basic Basket Crochet Pattern, which is another nesting basket pattern.

Using only half double and single crochet stitches, this pattern is perfect for advanced beginners. The pattern creates a set of three sizes that fit snugly within each other. The clever design offers functionality and style, to organize your space efficiently.

Included in the pattern is the option to add a handle. The basket can sit on a flat surface, or be hung on a hook to hold odd and ends. I love the hook option, as it holds a plant perfectly.

# 3 – Crochet Flat Bottom Basket Pattern

Another advanced beginner pattern, this one kicks your crochet skills up a notch with the addition of the treble, aka triple crochet stitch.

Additionally, the pattern comes in two funs sizes that can sit flat or hang. My favorite way to style them is hanging on a hook with a plant inside.

#4 – The Little Handle Basket Crochet Pattern

The Little Handle Basket Crochet Pattern is rated advanced beginner, and worked with two strands of Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick held together. Pictured are the colors Fisherman, Wheat, and Fossil.

Additionally, it has a cute little handle on each side, to add some fun detail. In the written and video instructions you’ll learn how to increase, work in the round, and create handles.

#5 – The Color Block Crochet Basket Pattern

Part of the 12 Free Crochet Basket Patterns, The Color Block Basket Crochet Pattern worked up in the tray size. The colors are Fossil and Fisherman. The basket is filled with a mini faux succulent and candle, and has a screw on leather tag with The Simply Made by Erin logo engraved on them.

The Color Block Crochet Basket Pattern is #5 in the crochet basket series!

If you enjoyed pattern #4, The Little Handle Basket, get ready to challenge yourself a bit more. This tutorial adds a color change and few slight tweaks, to ramp up your crochet skills.

The Color Block Crochet Basket Pattern is another advanced beginner pattern and worked with two strands of Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick held together. The colors shown are Fisherman and Fossil.

The video tutorial includes instructions on how to create a seamless color change.

#6 – Free Crochet Peg Board Basket Pattern

We’re on basket #6, The Crochet Peg Board Basket Pattern! If you made pattern #4, The Little Handle Basket, this one will be a breeze!

Rated advanced beginner, the mini peg board baskets have a small handle on one side, and can easily be hung on a peg board, to hold odds and ends.

Worked with two strands of Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick held together, in the colors Grey Marble, Fossil, Fisherman, and Wheat. This free basket pattern is the quickest to make in the line-up.

#7 – Free Crochet Nesting Bowl Pattern Set of 6

Basket #7 is The Crochet Nesting Bowl Pattern – Set of 6.

This is probably my favorite pattern of the series! It has been completely revamped from my original pattern years back, and is now better than ever!

The Crochet Nesting Bowl Pattern is rated advanced beginner and worked in a continuous round, using only half double and single crochet stitches.

The pattern comes in a set of 6 baskets/bowls, and is written using size 6 super bulky yarn. I prefer Cover Story™ Lazy Days Thick & Quick® Yarn. The colors shown are Cream, Sandstone, Olive, Pumpkin, Amber, and Mustard.

#8 & 9 – The XL & Mini Crochet Color Block Baskets

Next up are basket patterns #8 & #9. The XL & Mini Crochet Color Block Baskets made with Bernat® Blanket Extra Thick™ Yarn. The colors shown are Vintage White, Gold, Clay, and Blue Spruce.

I love how quick the extra thick blanket yarn makes the baskets work up. It’s an intermediate pattern, with a few color changes, but only uses single crochet throughout.

The baskets are flexible, yet sturdy enough to stand upright without additional support. The smaller size is a variation of the XL pattern, but both designs use the same method.

#10 – The Doorknob Hanging Basket Crochet Pattern

Pattern #10 is such a fun one!

The Doorknob Hanging Basket is worked in the round and includes a handle that fits perfectly around a doorknob or hook.

It makes the perfect stocking or Easter basket alternative, if you’re looking for something a bit different. I especially love it for a teen, as it can double as storage after the holiday is over.

Rated advanced beginner, the Doorknob Hanging Basket Crochet Pattern alternates between single and double crochet, creating a beautiful texture similar to a lemon peel.

They’re worked with Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick or two strands of Bernat Maker. Pictured is Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick in the color Fossil. 


#11 – The Lil Tweed Basket

The next two basket patterns are holiday themed!

The Lil Tweed Basket is an easy basket pattern that works up quickly using two strands of bulky yarn held together. The green tweed yarn definitely gives Christmas vibes, but it can easily be appropriate for any season by switching up the colors.

The pattern is rated advanced beginner, and written using two strands of bulky yarn held together I used Mary Maxim Aspen yarn in the color Alpine.

This pattern does not include a video tutorial, however, it’s the same technique as The Little Handle Basket.

#12 – The Lil Bunny Basket Crochet Pattern

The final pattern in the crochet basket pattern line-up is, The Lil Bunny Basket Crochet Pattern. This is probably the most popular pattern in the bunch. It’s the perfect crochet project for Easter!

The Bunny Basket is rated advanced beginner, worked in the round with two strands of Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick held together, in the color Grey Marble.

Aside from the cute, furry tail, the pattern is worked in one continuous piece, no fastening off for the ears!!
