Let’s learn how to make The Farmhouse Crochet Pumpkin pattern, with this easy crochet pattern and full video tutorial.
The Farmhouse Crochet Pumpkin pattern is worked in a continuous round, then cinched closed on top, and ribbed to create a beautiful pumpkin shape. The unique design is worked with two strands of bulky yarn held together, features a front post double crochet, and comes in two sizes.
If you’re looking for a new design, to add to your pumpkin patch this Fall, The Farmhouse Crochet Pumpkin pattern is a great one to try. It’s slightly more advanced than my other designs, as it uses a front post double crochet, but once you get that down, you’ll be pumping them out in no time.
Let’s get started!
Styling Ideas For The Farmhouse Crochet Pumpkin
The Farmhouse Crochet Pumpkin was originally designed years ago when the Farmhouse frenzy was in full swing, but it’s really a traditional, timeless design. I love using neutral colors, as they look great with any Fall color scheme.

The pumpkins look amazing displayed with the other pumpkins designs I’ve created over the years. I love adding them to a big wooden tray or bowl to display on my kitchen table or island. Adding multiple designs, colors, and yarns creates a beautiful unique display in your home!

Yarn
The Farmhouse Crochet Pumpkin Pattern is written using Bernat Maker (two strands held together). This is a size 5, bulky, tube style yarn, made of cotton on the outside and nylon in the center of the tube. The colors shown are Cream and Clay.
Below are the suppliers I recommend:
Amazon or Like To Know It (LTK)
Yarn Alternatives
Feel free to experiment with different yarns, but please note the gauge may turn out slightly smaller or larger depending on what you use. If you change the yarn size of the project, be sure to adjust your hook size accordingly. The most important thing is to have a nice tight stitch that will hide the Poly-fil from showing through.
Some of my favorite yarn alternatives are as follows, all by Lion Brand Yarn:
Wool Ease Thick & Quick (1 strand)
Rewind Tape Yarn (2 strand held together)
Hue + Me (2 strands held together)
Cover Story™ Lazy Days Thick & Quick® (1 strand)
Sizing
The Farmhouse Crochet Pumpkin Pattern comes in two sizes:
Small – Approximately 3 inches tall, 16.5 inch circumference (not including stem)
Large – Approximately 3.5 inches tall, 20.5 inch circumference (not including stem)
The pattern can be adjusted to any size, by adding or subtracting increase rounds in increments of 10. You can also add or subtract as many work even rounds as you’d like. The rest of the pattern is followed exactly, you’ll just have a different stitch and round count throughout.

Stems
The easiest option for the stem on The Crochet Farmhouse Pumpkin is wooden branches you find laying around outside (give them a good wash and let them air dry). Cinnamon sticks or wine corks work well also. In addition, you can buy real wooden sticks on Amazon. They’re all cleaned and ready to use, just look closely at the size description, as the photos can be misleading.
Another fun option is to use vegan or Ultrasuede tags as stems. I recently created a blog post on the different crochet tags I use. The full post with extensive detail can be found here.
– The vegan leather leaves and give thanks tags (shown below), are from Savlabot.
– The Ultrasuede custom logo tags (shown as the stem below), are from Angie & Britt. They also offer leaves and some fun seasonal tag designs.

Written Instructions
– The Farmhouse Crochet Pumpkin Pattern is worked with two strands of yarn held together.
– Do not join at end of each round (unless otherwise noted), mark the 1st st of each round with st marker.
– Each fpdc should line up with the fpdc from previous rnd, the fpdc will start to slant slightly.
– When working the 1st hdc following a fpdc, take extra care not to miss the stitch directly after the fpdc, it may be a little covered up by the fpdc.

Reference Steps 1-3 below for finishing off your pumpkin.
Size Large Continued
Rnd 4. *hdc in next 2 sts, 2 hdc in next st, repeat from * around. (40hdc)
(diameter should measure approximately 5 ½” – 5 ¾” across)
Rnd 5-12. *hdc in next 4sts, fpdc around next st, repeat from * around. (40sts)
Rnd 13 . Inv-scdec around, join with sl st in beg sc. (20sc)
Fasten off leaving a 40-50 inch tail end. Weave in beg tail end, and fill pumpkin with Poly-fil.
Tip: don’t overfill or you’ll see the Poly-fil through the gaps in the yarn.
Reference Steps 1-3 below for finishing off your pumpkin.
Step 1.
Weave tail end in and out around last rnd of sts. I worked under both loops.

Step 2.
Pull tail end tightly to cinch closed. Feel free to leave a small opening for the stem.

Step 3.
Using a tapestry needle, take the remaining yarn tail, wrap it around the outside of the pumpkin’s body, pushing it up through the bottom center of the pumpkin. Continue to push needle all the way through to the top center, and pull tightly, to create the first rib (I like to position my yarn centered between each fpdc). Repeat step 3 evenly around the pumpkin until you have a total of 6 ridges (for size small) and 8 ridges (for size large).

Your pumpkin is finished!! Weave in the loose end, adorn with stems, leaves, and ribbons as desired! I use a hot glue gun to add the stem.
