two orange and mustard colored crochet pumpkins on a round decorative tray

The Harvest Pumpkin | Free Crochet Pattern

The Harvest Pumpkin crochet pattern is my very first pumpkin design, and I created it years ago. Pumpkins are my absolutely favorite item to crochet! The Harvest Pumpkin is an easy pattern that works up in no time. You can literally have an entire pumpkin patch ready within a few hours.

The pattern is worked in the round using super bulky yarn, my favorite is Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick & Quick, but its pretty flexible with just about any size yarn. I love making them with two strands of worsted weight or bulky yarn held together, but make sure you adjust your hook size accordingly. The most important thing, is to have a nice tight stitch that will hide the Poly-fil from showing through.

The instructions below include the size small which is about 14 inches around and 2 ½ inches tall, before adding the stem. Speaking of the stem, you can use just about anything. For example, I love using wooden branches I find laying around outside, cinnamon sticks, or wine corks. In addition, you can also find real wooden sticks all cleaned and ready to go on Amazon, just look closely at the size description, as the photos can be misleading.

NOTE: After publishing this pattern I discovered the invisible single crochet decrease (inv-scdec). It creates a nice tight decrease that works well for amigurumi projects. Please feel free to substitute the sc2tog in rounds 9 & 10 with the inv-scdec. Here’s a a quick video on how to create the stitch.

Fasten off leaving a 30-40 inch tail end. Weave in beginning tail end.

Step 3.

Take tail end and insert tapestry needle through the bottom center of pumpkin, push needle up through the top center, and pull tight to create the first ridge.  Repeat step 3 evenly around the pumpkin until you have a total of 5 ridges around the pumpkin.
