The Farmhouse Crochet Pumpkin is worked in continuous rounds using two strands of bulky yarn held together. A front post double crochet creates the textured design, then the pumpkin is cinched closed and shaped with ribbing for extra definition. The pattern includes two sizes, making it easy to create a coordinating set for your fall décor.
This pattern is a little more advanced than some of my other crochet pumpkins because it uses front post double crochet, but once you get the stitch down, the pattern works up pretty quickly. Styling Ideas For The Farmhouse Crochet Pumpkin
The Farmhouse Crochet Pumpkin was originally designed when farmhouse décor was everywhere, but I’ve always felt the design itself is much more traditional and timeless. I especially love making these pumpkins in neutral colors—they blend beautifully with just about any fall color palette.
Try mixing the Farmhouse Pumpkin with several different pumpkin designs, yarn textures, colors, and sizes to create a unique seasonal display. I love arranging a collection in a large wooden tray or bowl on my kitchen table or island, but they also look beautiful on a mantel, shelf, or entryway table. Yarn
The Farmhouse Crochet Pumpkin is made with Bernat Maker, a size 5 bulky yarn held two strands together. Bernat Maker has a unique tubular construction with a cotton outer layer and nylon center, which gives these pumpkins beautiful stitch definition and structure. I used the colors Cream and Clay for the pumpkins shown throughout the pattern.

Yarn Alternatives
This pattern also works well with several different yarns, so feel free to experiment with different fibers, textures, and colors. If you change the yarn weight, adjust your hook size as needed to maintain a firm fabric. The most important thing is to keep your stitches tight enough that the Poly-fil doesn’t show through.

Stem Ideas for Your Farmhouse Pumpkins
One of the easiest options for pumpkin stems is to use small wooden branches found outdoors. Simply give them a good wash and allow them to dry completely before using them. Cinnamon sticks and wine corks also work well, or you can purchase natural wooden sticks on Amazon—just be sure to check the dimensions carefully before ordering.
Another one of my favorite options is using vegan leather or Ultrasuede® tags as decorative stems. They add a modern touch while giving each pumpkin a polished, finished look.

Sizing
The Farmhouse Crochet Pumpkin pattern includes two sizes:

Measurements do not include the stem.
The pattern is also easy to customize. To make a larger or smaller pumpkin, add or subtract increase rounds in increments of 10 stitches. You can also add or subtract work-even rounds to adjust the height. The remainder of the pattern is worked the same—you’ll simply have a different stitch and round count throughout.
Gauge | Working in the Round
First 3 rounds = 4¼ inches using an L (8.0 mm) crochet hook
Be sure to check your gauge before you begin, as everyone’s crochet tension is different. Your finished pumpkin size may also vary slightly depending on the yarn and hook you choose.
Special Stitches
Invisible Single Crochet Decrease (inv-scdec)
Insert hook into front loop only of 1st st, insert hook into front loop only of next st, yarn over and pull through 2 loops on hook, yarn over, pull through last 2 loops on hook. (counts as 1 single crochet) you can find video instructions here
Front Post Double Crochet (fpdc)
Yarn over, insert hook from front to back around post of corresponding stitch below, yarn over and draw up a loop (3 loops on hook), yarn over and pull through 1st 2 loops (2 loops left on hook), yarn over and pull through last 2 loops on hook.

- Crochet Hook: Size L/8.0mm Hook (or size needed to meet gauge)

- Stem: Small dried branch (attach with hot glue or craft glue)

Written Instructions
- The Farmhouse Crochet Pumpkin Pattern is worked with two strands of yarn held together.
- Do not join at end of each round (unless otherwise noted), mark the 1st st of each round with st marker.
- Each fpdc should line up with the fpdc from previous rnd, the fpdc will start to slant slightly.
- When working the 1st hdc following a fpdc, take extra care not to miss the stitch directly after the fpdc, it may be a little covered up by the fpdc.
Size Small & Large
Rnd 1. Create a magic circle, ch1, work 10 hdc in circle. (10hdc)
Alternate Method: Ch4, join with sl st in 4th ch from hook, ch1, work 10 hdc in circle. (10hdc)
Rnd 2. 2 hdc in each st around. (20hdc)
Rnd 3. *hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st, repeat from * around. (30hdc)
(diameter should measure approximately 4 ¼” across)
Size small continued
Rnd 4-10. *hdc in next 4 sts, fpdc around next st, repeat from * around. (30sts)
Rnd 11. Inv-scdec around, join with sl st in beg sc. (15sc)
- Fasten off leaving a 40-50 inch tail end. Weave in beg tail end, and fill pumpkin with Poly-fil.
- Tip: don’t overfill or you’ll see the Poly-fil through the gaps in the yarn.
- Reference Steps 1-3 below for finishing off your pumpkin.
Size Large Continued
Rnd 4. *hdc in next 2 sts, 2 hdc in next st, repeat from * around. (40hdc)
(diameter should measure approximately 5 ½” – 5 ¾” across)
Rnd 5-12. *hdc in next 4sts, fpdc around next st, repeat from * around. (40sts)
Rnd 13 . Inv-scdec around, join with sl st in beg sc. (20sc)
- Fasten off leaving a 40-50 inch tail end. Weave in beg tail end, and fill pumpkin with Poly-fil.
- Tip: don’t overfill or you’ll see the Poly-fil through the gaps in the yarn.
- Reference Steps 1-3 below for finishing off your pumpkin.
Step 1.
Weave tail end in and out around last rnd of sts. I worked under both loops.
Step 2.
Pull tail end tightly to cinch closed. Feel free to leave a small opening for the stem.
Step 3.
- Using a tapestry needle, take the remaining yarn tail, wrap it around the outside of the pumpkin’s body, pushing it up through the bottom center of the pumpkin.
- Continue to push needle all the way through to the top center, and pull tightly, to create the first rib (I like to position my yarn centered between each fpdc).
- Repeat step 3 evenly around the pumpkin until you have a total of 6 ridges (for size small) and 8 ridges (for size large).
Your pumpkin is finished!! Weave in the loose end, adorn with stems, leaves, and ribbons as desired! I use a hot glue gun to add the stem.
