For the mantel shown, I used small Command hooks near each corner to secure the twine, then tied the garland in place and adjusted the spacing until the hats hung evenly. For a little more movement, let the center dip slightly instead of pulling the twine completely straight.

You can also hang the garland across a mirror, shelf, window, entryway, or along a decorative ledge. Try pairing it with pumpkins, greenery, candles, or other fall accents to create a fuller seasonal display.

For The Crochet Witch Hat Garland shown below, I used a mix of ribbons and seasonal floral picks. You can easily snip the individual flowers and leaves off larger picks with wire cutters, and then attach them with hot glue.

Invisible Join
After completion of the last stitch of the round, fasten off. With a tapestry needle, weave tail end under both loops of the first stitch of the round. Next, weave through the back loop only of the last stitch of the round. Weave in tail.

– Beg ch of each rnd does not count as st, work 1st st in same st as beg ch.
– Join each rnd with sl st in beg hdc/sc.
– Create 5 hats total, or desired amount to complete your garland.

Note:
The first round or two may feel a bit tedious due to the narrow pointed shape at the top of the hat. This is completely normal and will become more comfortable as you continue working through the pattern.

Rnd 1. Ch3, work 3 hdc in 3^rd ch from hook, join. (3hdc)
Rnd 2. Ch1, work 2 hdc in each st around, join with sl st in beg hdc. (6hdc)
Rnd 3. Ch1, *hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st, repeat from * around, join. (9hdc)

Take a long piece of twine (approximately 80 inches) and thread the witch hats on using a tapestry needle. I thread through the very top of the hats, under a small piece of yarn. Adjust the spacing as desired.
