How To Crochet The Harvest Crochet Pumpkin Pattern

Let’s make The Harvest Crochet Pumpkin Pattern! This was my first pumpkin pattern design, created years ago. It’s an easy design that works up in no time. You can have an entire pumpkin patch ready within just a few hours.

The Harvest Crochet Pumpkin Pattern is rated advanced beginner and worked in the round using super bulky yarn, but it’s pretty flexible with just about any size yarn, see below for more information. Try experimenting with different yarns, colors, and sizes to create a unique pumpkin patch to display around your home.

If you’re looking for an easy pumpkin pattern, The Harvest Crochet Pumpkin Pattern is a great one to help build up your experience working in the round. It uses only single and half double crochet stitches and basic increases and decreases. You’ll even get to learn a fun and easy decrease technique!

Let’s get started!

Styling Ideas For Your Harvest Crochet Pumpkin

The Harvest Crochet Pumpkin makes a wonderful addition to your Fall and Halloween decor. Place a set of pumpkins on a tray or shelf, and when Halloween rolls around, try grouping them with a spooky skeleton or cute Halloween sign!

I love to add different colors and sizes to create a unique grouping. Try grouping them with some of these Free Crochet Pumpkin Patterns, to add variation.

Yarn

The Harvest Crochet Pumpkin Pattern is written using Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick & Quick. This is a size 6, super bulky yarn. My favorite colors to use are Mustard, Pumpkin, Butterscotch, and Fall Leaves.

Below are the suppliers I recommend:
Lion Brand Yarn
Amazon or Like To Know It (LTK)

Yarn Alternatives

Feel free to experiment with different yarns, but please note the gauge may turn out slightly smaller or larger depending on what you use. If you change the yarn size of the project, be sure to adjust your hook size accordingly. I love using two strands of worsted weight or bulky yarn held together, but you can also use thinner or bulkier yarn. The most important thing is to have a nice tight stitch that will hide the Poly-fil from showing through.

Some of my favorite yarn alternatives are as follows:
Bernat Maker (2 strands held together)
Lion Brand Yarn Hue + Me (2 strands held together)
Cover Story™ Lazy Days Thick & Quick® Yarn

Sizing

The pattern comes in two sizes:

Small – Approximately 2.5 inches tall, 14 inch circumference (not including stem)
Regular – Approximately 3 inches tall, 17-18 inch circumference (not including stem)

The pattern is very easy to adjust by adding or subtracting increase rounds (in increments of 10), and adding or subtracting as many rounds of single crochet as you’d like. The rest of the pattern is followed exactly, you’ll just have a different stitch count throughout.

Stems

The easiest option for the stem on The Harvest Crochet Pumpkin is wooden branches you find laying around outside (give them a good wash and let them air dry). Cinnamon sticks or wine corks work well too. In addition, you can buy real wooden sticks on Amazon. They’re all cleaned and ready to use, just look closely at the size description, as the photos can be misleading.

Another fun option is to use vegan or Ultrasuede tags as stems. I recently created a blog post on the different crochet tags I use. The full post with extensive detail can be found here.

– The vegan leather leaves and give thanks tags (shown below), are from Savlabot.
– The Ultrasuede custom logo tags (shown as the stem below), are from Angie & Britt. They also offer leaves and some fun seasonal tag designs.

Step 3.

Using a tapestry needle, take the remaining yarn tail, wrap it around the outside of the pumpkin’s body, pushing it up through the bottom center of the pumpkin. Continue to push needle all the way through to the top center, and pull tightly, to create the first rib. Repeat step 3 evenly around the pumpkin until you have a total of 5 ridges around the pumpkin.
