Crochet Flower Appliqués: 9 Ideas for Towel Holders, Bags & More

Crochet flower appliqués are one of my favorite ways to add a simple, customizable touch to projects you already have. From crochet flower appliqués on towel holders to bags, stockings, garland, and gifts, one small detail can completely change the look to match the season, your home décor, or your personal style.

My crochet flower appliqué collection includes the Daisy, Sunflower, and Rose, with the new Poinsettia Appliqué coming Monday. Each design was created to work as part of an interchangeable system with my towel holder patterns, but there are plenty of other ways to use them too.

Each flower can slide right over the button on my Button Closure Crochet Towel Holder, making the appliqués easy to swap out throughout the year. You can also use the appliqués on their own for decorating other crochet projects, gifts, and accessories.

In this post, I’ll show you 9 ways to use crochet flower appliqués, including towel holders, bags, stockings, garland, gift toppers, and more.

✨ 9 Ways to Use Crochet Flower Appliqués

Crochet flower appliqués are such an easy way to customize projects you already have. From towel holders and bags to garland, stockings, and gift toppers, there are plenty of ways to use them throughout the year.

1. Crochet Towel Holders

The flower appliqués were originally designed to pair with my crochet towel holder patterns, making this one of the most practical ways to use them.

Each flower can slide right over the button on the Button Closure Crochet Towel Holder, so you can remove it and switch to a different flower whenever you want to change the season, color, or style.

Try bright or lighter colors for spring and summer, warmer tones for fall, or neutral shades for an everyday look.

How To Make The Button Closure Crochet Towel Holder Pattern - Optional Flower Appliques

You can use the flower appliqués with either of my towel holder patterns:

With the Original Crochet Towel Holder, you can either sew the flower directly onto the holder or add a round button to the front so the flower can be removable and interchangeable.

2. Bag Charms

Turn your appliqués into bag charms by attaching a keyring or clip. I especially love adding them to my 👉 Round Handle Crochet Bag Pattern for a fun, customizable look that you can switch out anytime.

3. Garland

String multiple flowers together to create a simple garland—perfect for seasonal décor or party styling.

4. Decorating Baskets

Attach a flower to a basket for an easy way to add texture and color. This works beautifully with my 👉 Spike Stitch Basket & Tray Pattern or any of your favorite storage baskets.

5. Embellishing Planters

Add a soft, decorative detail to your planters by attaching a flower appliqué. This pairs perfectly with my 👉 Crochet Posh Planter and is a simple way to refresh your home décor for the season.

6. Creating Bookmarks

Use a flower appliqué as the top of a bookmark by adding a crocheted chain stem. These make quick and thoughtful handmade gifts.

7. Embellishing Hats or Headbands

Add a flower to hats or headbands for a simple embellishment that can be customized for different seasons, colors, or styles. Try adding one to 👉 The Basic Ear Warmers Pattern for an elevated look.

8. Stocking Embellishments

Add a crochet flower appliqué to a handmade stocking for an easy seasonal detail. The Poinsettia works especially well for Christmas stockings, but you can change the flower and colors to create a completely different look for other seasons or styles.

9. Gift Toppers

Use a crochet flower appliqué instead of a traditional bow to dress up wrapped gifts, gift bags, or packages. Tie one onto ribbon or twine for a reusable handmade detail that can become part of the gift itself.

This works especially well with the Poinsettia for Christmas, but the Daisy, Sunflower, and Rose can be used throughout the year for birthdays, hostess gifts, Mother’s Day, and other occasions.

💡 Final Thoughts

Crochet flower appliqués are an easy way to give projects you already have a completely different look. Add them to towel holders, bags, stockings, baskets, garland, gifts, or accessories, then change the colors and flower style to match the season.

Because the appliqués work up quickly, they’re also a great way to use leftover yarn or add a finishing touch to handmade gifts and craft-market projects.
