DIY Christmas Wreath with Lopped Garland from Hobby Lobby and greenery, red berries, gold bells, and burlap bow with gold polka dots.

Easy DIY Christmas Wreath With Video Tutorial

Are you looking for a quick and easy Christmas project? Let’s learn how to make an easy DIY Christmas wreath, made from garland I found at Hobby Lobby!

I’ve made similar yarn wreaths in the past using loopy yarn and wool roving, but when I came across this beautiful cream and gold loopy garland at Hobby Lobby, I instantly knew what I was going to do with it, make a Christmas Wreath!!

This DIY Christmas Wreath is fully customizable. You can use any similar garland or loopy yarn, greenery, and ribbon you’d like. I’m sharing the basics, as I know not everyone will have access to what I do, so feel free to get creative and see what kind of garland you can find out there, that may work.

Let’s get started!

Sizing

The DIY Christmas Wreath shown, is made with a 10 inch foam wreath form. It creates a nice full, medium size wreath, perfect to display on your front door. You can experiment with any size wreath form you’d like. Simply follow the basic instructions below, and purchase as many garlands as you need to fully wrap around the wreath.

The finished size is approximately 25-30 inches across the widest parts of the wreath, including embellishments.

Materials

The materials used for the DIY Christmas Wreath are highly customizable. If you can’t find a garland you like, try loopy yarn. Once the wreath form is wrapped, the wreath can be left as is, or adorned with beautiful greenery, florals, bows, and bells. The options are endless!

Here’s what I used
10″ Foam Wreath Form (or size of choice)
2 Strands of Looped Garland from Hobby Lobby (or something comparable, mine where each 72″ and called Cream & Metallic Gold Looped Garland on their website)
Push Pins
Glue Gun
Scissors

Optional Materials
Embellishments such as floral picks, greenery, berries, ribbon, bells, twine, etc. (all of mine were from the Christmas section at Hobby Lobby)
Floral wire to attach embellishments

Loopy Yarn Alternative

Looking to use loopy yarn instead of garland?

Below are some wreaths I’ve made in the past using the same idea as above, but with loopy yarn. Several yarn brands make loopy yarn, just check your craft stores. I believe the brand shown below was JOANNS Big Twist (which has been discontinued), but many craft stores still offer something similar, and in many colors.

All embellishments shown below, are also from Hobby Lobby.

DIY Christmas Wreath Instructions

This project is extremely simply. Take the foam wreath and attach one end of the garland with hot glue (you can also pin the end in place temporarily, and glue it down at the end). Then, continue to wrap the garland around the wreath, as shown in the video below, until the wreath is completely covered. Glue the beginning and end of each strand to the wreath, to secure in place.

Adding The Embellishments

Once you have the wreath fully wrapped, embellish as you’d like. I used Christmas floral picks that I found at Hobby Lobby, and I attached them with floral wire wrapped around a few times. I already had ribbon on hand and tied a bow that I also attached with floral wire. You can also hot glue anything in place, but keep in mind the wreath is foam, so It can melt if the glue is too hot.

I like to focus most of my greenery on one side of the wreath, layering multiple floral stems together creates a beautiful, full wreath. If using floral wire, make sure to weave the floral wire within the garland, so it’s hidden.

Below is the finished wreath!

It’s as simple as that, play around with it and have fun!!
