The bells are worked in continuous rounds using simple single crochet stitches, then finished with a decorative edging and jingle bell. I used two strands of Lion Brand Rewind Tape Yarn held together to give them a structured, slightly woven look.

Styling & Decorating Ideas for Crochet Christmas Bells
These Crochet Christmas Bells are easy to use throughout your holiday decor. Hang them individually from a Christmas tree, wreath, hook, or peg rail, or group all three sizes together to create a decorative door hanger.
I also love them hanging from the side of a mantel with Christmas garland. The different sizes look especially nice when they’re staggered at different heights.
The bells can be left simple or dressed up with ribbon, greenery, small bows, wooden tags, bells, or other Christmas accents. I used small wooden Christmas tags from Savlabot on several of mine.
You can also use the smaller bells as package toppers or small hanging accents throughout your home.
Choosing Your Holiday Yarn
The Crochet Christmas Bell Ornament & Door Hanger Pattern is written using two strands of Lion Brand Rewind Tape Yarn held together. Rewind is a size 5 bulky polyester tape yarn with a lightweight, slightly textured finish.
I chose this yarn because it gives the bells a structured, woven look similar to wicker. Holding two strands together adds extra stability and helps the finished bells hold their shape. The colors shown are Willow, Citronella, Olive You, and Elm.

A size 6 super bulky yarn held single can be substituted for the two strands of bulky yarn held together. Other bulky yarn combinations may also work, but the finished size, texture, and structure can vary depending on the yarn you choose.
If substituting yarn, be sure to check your gauge and keep your stitches fairly tight so the bells stay structured and hold their shape.
You can also experiment with different yarn textures and colors depending on the look you want—cream and neutral shades give the bells a softer look, while green or gold-toned yarns can make them feel a little more traditional for Christmas.
Ornaments & Embellishments
The Crochet Christmas Bells can be left simple or dressed up with ribbon, greenery, small bows, wooden tags, and other holiday accents.
I used inexpensive Christmas floral picks from Hobby Lobby and Michaels, then cut them into smaller pieces with wire cutters and attached them near the top of the bells with a small amount of hot glue. This is an easy way to add just a little extra detail without covering up the crochet.
I also added small jingle bells inside each crochet bell so they hang just slightly below the bottom opening. Gold or antique brass finishes work especially well with the natural texture of the Rewind yarn.
For the door-hanger version, you can keep all three bells coordinated or decorate each one a little differently. I like mixing greenery, ribbon, and small wooden tags while keeping the overall color palette simple.
Adding Festive Crochet Labels & Wooden Tags

The seasonal wooden tags shown throughout this project are from Savlabot. I love using these on the bells because they add a finished look without adding much bulk.
I attached the tags near the top of the bell with ribbon, then layered in small pieces of greenery and other holiday accents around them. You can keep the embellishments minimal or add a little more depending on your decorating style.
Sizing & Custom Adjustments
This pattern includes instructions for three Christmas bell sizes:
- Small: Approximately 3″ tall x 2.75″ wide
- Medium: Approximately 3.5″ tall x 3.75″ wide
- Large: Approximately 4″ tall x 4.75″ wide
Measurements are taken from the top of the crochet bell to the bottom edge, not including the hanger, and across the bottom opening at the widest point.
Pattern Gauge — Working in the Round
- First 2 rounds of pattern = 2″ across with L/8 mm hook
Gauge does not need to be exact for this decorative pattern, but differences in yarn, hook size, or tension may change the finished size of your bells. Please be sure to check your gauge before starting, as tension can vary greatly from person to person and depending on the yarn used.

Crochet Christmas Bell Ornament Written Instructions
– Do not join at the end of each rnd unless otherwise noted. Use a st marker to mark the 1st st of each rnd.
Size Small
Before You Begin: Leave a beg tail approximately 20″ long when creating the magic circle. This tail will be used later to create the hanger and attach the jingle bell.
Rnd 1. Create a magic circle, ch1, work 6sc in the circle. (6sc)
Close magic circle tightly. Do NOT weave in the beg tail.
Rnd 2. 2sc in each st around. (12sc)
Rnds 3-6. Sc in each st around. (12sc)

Attaching the Jingle Bell & Creating the Hanger
Note: If preferred, a separate piece of yarn, twine, or ribbon can be used in place of the beginning tail to create the hanger and attach the jingle bell.
- Working on the wrong side, weave the beg tail around the magic circle a few times to secure. Do NOT fasten off.
- Feed the tail through the center top of the crochet bell, then back through again to create a loop. For an individual ornament, make the loop approximately 1″ tall, or desired length. For the door-hanger version, make the loop very short, approximately 1/4″ tall, as it will be used only as an attachment point for the longer hanging strand.
- The remaining tail should now be inside the bell. Weave the tail around the magic circle a few more times to secure the loop in place.
- Thread the jingle bell onto the remaining tail.
- Adjust the jingle bell so it hangs just slightly below the bottom opening of the crochet bell.
- Bring the remaining tail up toward the inside top of the bell and tie 1-2 tight knots directly beneath the center top to secure the jingle bell in place.
- Trim any excess yarn as needed.

Creating a Door Hanger
Complete all three bell sizes before assembling the door hanger. Each bell should have a small attachment loop at the top, as described in the finishing instructions above.
- Cut a separate length of yarn, twine, or ribbon for each bell. Since each strand will be doubled, cut it approximately twice the desired finished hanging length, plus a few extra inches for tying. I made mine approximately 40″ for the Small Bell, 44″ for the Medium Bell, and 54″ for the Large Bell.
- For each bell, create a lark’s head knot by folding the individual strand in half to create a loop, then feed the folded loop through the small attachment loop at the top of the bell. Pull the two loose ends through the folded loop and tighten to secure.
- Adjust the strands so the bells hang at staggered heights, with the Small Bell highest, Medium Bell slightly lower, and Large Bell lowest.
- Once you are happy with the placement, gather all three strands at the top and fold them over to create a loop for hanging. Tie the strands securely together just below the loop, then trim any excess tails.
- If desired, add a small dab of hot glue or fabric glue to help secure the knot and tails in place.
- Hang the finished door hanger from a doorknob, wall hook, cabinet knob, peg rail, mantel hook, or other sturdy hanging point.
Optional Wooden Ring: Instead of creating the folded hanging loop, fold the gathered strands over the wooden ring. Bring the ends back down beside the hanging strands and tie a secure knot directly beneath the ring. Trim any excess tails and secure with a small dab of hot glue or fabric glue if desired.
Note: If hanging the bells from a doorknob, be sure to choose a wooden ring large enough to fit over the knob. A smaller ring can be used if the hanger will be placed on a hook, peg, or similar hanging point.
