How to Make a Decorative Crochet Bunny with Sherpa Yarn

There’s just something about soft, fluffy textures and cute seasonal decor that makes a home feel extra cozy around spring and Easter, and this Decorative Crochet Bunny does exactly that! This project is designed as a decorative accent, making it perfect for styling on shelves, trays, entry tables, or tucked into your spring and Easter displays.

Made with plush sherpa yarn, this bunny has a beautifully textured, fur-like appearance and works up surprisingly quickly. A small weighted base helps it sit nicely upright, so you can place it just about anywhere around your home.

Whether you’re decorating for Easter, refreshing your spring decor, or just love adding handmade pieces around your home, this bunny is a fun and satisfying project that adds a cute touch without taking hours to make.

Bonus: The Sherpa Bunny pairs perfectly with The Fluffy Chick Crochet Pattern. Together, they create a friendly duo that looks beautiful displayed side by side.

Styling & Display Ideas For Your Decorative Crochet Bunny

This Decorative Crochet Bunny is designed as a decorative home accent, not a toy or traditional amigurumi. Its weighted base helps it sit nicely on flat surfaces, making it perfect for styling on shelving, decorative trays, or tables throughout your home.

This project is intended for decorative use only and is not a toy. If used around children, omit safety eyes and small embellishments.

Bonus: The Sherpa Bunny looks perfect styled with its companion, The Fluffy Chick Crochet Pattern!

Yarn Suggestions For The Decorative Crochet Bunny

The Decorative Crochet Bunny pattern is written using Size 7 Jumbo yarn. I recommend Lion Brand Go For Fleece Sherpa. The sample bunny was made using the color Cream for the body, ears, and tail. Feel free to use a contrasting color for the tail, or substitute Lion Brand Go For Faux Yarn if you have it on hand.

For the flowers, leaves, and nose, I used a small amount of Lion Brand Made With Love – The Cotton One. Any worsted weight yarn will work well for these details.

Sample Colors Used:
Flowers: Gold Medal, Flaming Amber, Red Red Wine
Leaves: Olive Twist
Nose: Primrose Hill

Sherpa Yarn Tips

Sherpa yarn can be challenging to work with, as you can’t see the stitches easily, so it’s not recommended for beginners. Below are some tips to help you along the way.

– Since you can’t see the stitches well, you’ll need to feel for the next stitch/gap and insert your hook there. This does make the project somewhat more forgiving, as mistakes aren’t easily seen.

– Using a stitch marker to mark the 1st stitch of the round is helpful. You can also mark the last stitch of the round for even more clarity.

– Make sure to keep track of the number of stitches and rounds completed, as it’s very difficult to count once the stitches are completed.

Yarn Alternatives For The Decorative Crochet Bunny

You’re welcome to experiment with different yarns, just keep in mind that your gauge may vary depending on the fiber content and thickness. Personally, I prefer sherpa yarn for this project, as it creates a beautiful fluffy texture, perfect for a bunny!

Back Hump or Bump of a Chain
The back hump (also known as the back bump) is located on the backside of a crochet chain. While the front of the chain looks like a row of “V” shapes, with a front and back loop, the back features a small bump or bar behind each “V”. To locate the back hump or bump slightly rotate the chain or chains toward you.

Hi there. I have just made this with some discontinued teddy bear yarn that I’ve had in my stash for ages. It will be a pressie for my mum. It’s turned out really well. I love it and I know she will too. Thanks so much for the pattern(s) 😊🥰
