The Ultimate Guide To Faux Plant Sources Winter 2024

Christmas time is finally here, and I’m excited to share The Ultimate Guide To Faux Plant Sources Winter 2024!

Winter is my favorite season to source faux plants and trees, to pair with my crochet planter cover patterns. This year has been a fun one, as many of the styles I’ve seen over the last few years, have changed, and we finally have some new looks to choose from.

Faux plants have been popular sellers on Etsy, at markets, and in brick and mortar shops for me, as well as many of my crochet maker friends.

When Christmas and Winter roll around, they seem to become even more popular. The addition of a crochet cover, to an otherwise, boring or unfinished pot or planter, creates an entirely new piece, that works up quickly, is interchangeable, and perfect to add to your Christmas and Winter decor!

Continue below as I share a curated list of some of my favorite Winter planter finds, as well as a full list of crochet planter patterns, to fit around the beautiful planters.

Bonus: several of the planter patterns are already free on the blog!!

Where to get the best faux plants!

Winter is here, so I’ll be focusing on Winter faux plants.

Each year availability changes, especially for seasonal items. Please keep in mind that stores change their items depending on demand and availability.

Seasonal items sometimes don’t return the following year, therefore, you may not always be able to replicate what you see in my photos.

My goal is to create a new blog post seasonally, with my updated finds for that year.

Looking for previous seasons? Find all of my faux plant guides here!

Over the years, I’ve found several tried and true Faux Plant Sources. My go to places for trees and plants are typically Ikea, Target, and Michaels. I’ve also found a few trees at Hobby Lobby and Walmart, but I find Ikea, Target, and Michaels, are more consistent with up to date styles, the sizes I like to use, and I also love their prices.

The winter line-up was slim pickings this year, and I didn’t find much at Michaels, that stood out to me, so the guide below will focus on Ikea and Target.

Notes:
– This is a guide to help you find what I’ve used in the past, therefore there is no guarantee you’ll be able to source these exact items.
– Links change frequently making it hard to keep everything up to date. Therefore, I may not be able to link everything.
– If you’re not seeing a tree or plant listed below, that you’ve seen me use in the past, it’s because it’s no longer available, discontinued, etc. See Blog Posts Here For Spring & Fall Planter Sources.

Reference each individual pattern below to see which faux plant I recommend.

Target Plant Sources

The Threshold & Room Essentials collection at Target has been a favorite of mine over the years. They’re affordable and the base they use, fit my crochet covers nicely.

Every winter they come out with cute seasonal designs. I found a few I really liked this year (as shown below). I always say, it’s better to look at these in person, as some styles aren’t as realistic as others.

They had a poinsettia this year, but I wasn’t very fond of it, so I didn’t include it in the line-up.

The cute faux trees shown below are my favorite this year! I used The Pirouette Planter, in the size large, to cover it (I skipped the last few repeat rounds).

Below are new styles I found for 2024. I’ve seen them all in person, and really like them, and the price!

The great thing with Target, is they have an amazing return policy, so even if you order them online, it’s very easy to return if they aren’t to your liking.

Another style I love from Target is The Hearth and Hand Line. I haven’t seen any specific styles for Winter this year, but I’ve included some great year round options below.

Ikea Plant Sources

Ikea carries a huge selection of plants under their Fejka line, that I highly recommend.

During the holidays, they come out with adorable seasonal plants and trees. They are usually labeled under the Vinter or Vinterfint line.

I love Ikea for affordability and their large inventory. If you don’t have an Ikea nearby, they do accept online orders in certain areas.

This year Ikea changed their mini trees slightly, but they still come in the same size pot, that fit nicely with many of my planter patterns.

The trees are a bit bushier and a brighter green, than they have been in the past, but they still look adorable once they’re dressed up in a little crochet cover!

As recommended previously, I use the Fejka 3 ½” size in most of my patterns, but also love the mini 2 ¼” size.

Below are the mini faux Christmas plant styles and small faux Christmas plant styles, I found this year.

Most of my planter patterns use this style planter, but please reference each individual pattern below to see which faux plant I recommend.

Screw on & Wooden Tags

I recently created a blog post on the different crochet tags I use. The full post with extensive detail can be found here.

– For my logo tags, I used Ultrasuede, screw on, custom logo tags from: Angie & Britt, they also offer some fun seasonal designs.
– The seasonal screw on tags are vegan leather from Savlabot, I also get the little wooden rounds from her. (shown below)
– The sew on wooden logo tags are from Grain Deep, on Etsy.
– You’ll also need Chicago Screws to attach the tags.

Crochet Planter Patterns

I currently have FIVE crochet planter patterns, which are interchangeable with the faux plants I shared above. All of my planter patterns feature Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick yarn.

Pattern 055 – The Pirouette Planter

This Pirouette Planter is my most popular crochet planter pattern!

The mini Christmas trees are what really brought this pattern to light, and it’s such a quick one to work up. My favorite plants to use are the Fejka brand from Ikea.

This pattern comes in size mini, small, and large (size mini is free on the blog).

The sizes shown below are:
Mini – Featuring the mini tree from Ikea, linked above.
Large (I skipped the last few repeat rounds) – Featuring the small tree from Target, linked above.

Pattern 078 – The Posh Planter

This Posh Planter is the sister to the Pirouette Planter pattern. A few small changes and you get a slightly different look.

Definitely a favorite of mine! My favorite plants to use, are the Fejka brand from Ikea, and The Threshold or Room Essentials line from Target. This pattern comes in size mini and regular.

I didn’t work up any Christmas themed planter covers, with this pattern this year, but The Ikea and Target Christmas collections from The Faux Plant Sources Winter 2024, listed above, will both work well.

Pattern 053 – Chunky Planter Sweaters

This is the first planter pattern I created, years ago! My favorite plants to use are the Fejka brand from Ikea. This pattern comes in size mini, small, and large.

The sizes shown below are mini and small.

The mini poinsettia is from Ikea, and the small tree was discontinued, but a similar one can be found at Ikea, as shown above.

Pattern 080 – The Feathery Planter Pattern

This Feathery Planter is such a fun unique design. The crochet stitch offers amazing, chunky stitch definition.

The Target Hearth and Hand collection of faux plants work best with this pattern, but I used the Ikea small Christmas trees, this year, and they look adorable!

This pattern comes in size mini, small, medium, and large. The size shown below is small.

Pattern 085 – The Herringbone Planter Pattern

This Herringbone Planter is another unique design, as It features the herringbone half double crochet stitch, which is a fun variation of the traditional half double crochet.

The Target Hearth and Hand faux plant collection as well as the Fejka brand from Ikea, both work well with this pattern.

This pattern comes in size mini, small, and large, the sizes shown below are both small.

I didn’t work anything up for Christmas, using this design, but it’s completely interchangeable with the Faux Plant Sources Winter 2024, listed above. Try the small Tree from Ikea, it will look amazing!!
