If you’re looking for a quick and practical Valentine’s Day crochet project, you’ll love this Crochet Heart Dish Scrubby. It works up in just a few minutes and makes a cute handmade gift for teachers, friends, neighbors, gift baskets, or seasonal market prep.
This design started with my simple crochet heart pattern, which you may recognize from the Crochet Heart Garland Pattern. By adding an extra round and using scrubby yarn, the basic heart shape becomes a functional kitchen scrubby you can actually use.
For this version, I used two strands of size 4 scrubby yarn held together to create a thicker, more durable texture that’s easy to grip while washing dishes or scrubbing pots and pans. You can experiment with additional strands if you prefer an even thicker scrubby, just adjust your hook size as needed.
The pattern is advanced beginner-friendly, worked in the round, and uses basic crochet stitches throughout. Because it uses very little yarn and works up quickly, it’s also a great project for handmade gifts, Valentine’s Day markets, craft fairs, or making several at once.
If you’re making these for gifts or markets, I also have Free Printable Crochet Scrubby Labels with Valentine designs, ready-to-use PNG files, and editable Canva templates for packaging your finished scrubbies.
Below, you’ll find the complete free pattern along with the yarn, hook, and supplies needed to make your own Crochet Heart Dish Scrubby.

The Best Scrubby Yarn for This Pattern
The Crochet Heart Dish Scrubby is written using size 4 worsted weight, scrubby yarn (2 strands held together). Two strands held together made the scrubby thicker and easier to handle.
I used Red Heart Scrubby Stripes Yarn in the color Peachy. I made four scrubbies out of one skein.
Tip: When using two strands held together, you can work from one skein by pulling one strand from the outside and one strand from the center. I found this yarn worked well with this method without tangling much.
You can find the yarn, hook, and other recommended supplies for this pattern on my Amazon supply list here.

Alternative Yarn Suggestions
For the colorful yarn shown below, I found Scrub-ology from Hobby Lobby, which comes in various bright shades!
- If using Scrub-ology, follow the pattern as is, but with just one strand of yarn (scrubby shown in photo at the bottom).
- If you’d rather double up, hold two strands held together and complete Round 1 only of the original pattern (scrubby shown in photo at the top).
Note: Adjust the hook size as you feel necessary.

Packaging Ideas
I love to gift my Crochet Heart Dish Scrubby in cute packaging, especially when I include simple cleaning instructions. For this set, I used 4″ x 4″ clear cellophane bags and Avery 22807 2-inch round labels, which I printed at home.
I also created a collection of Free Printable Crochet Scrubby Labels that you can use to package this project. The collection includes Valentine designs that pair perfectly with the Heart Dish Scrubby, along with ready-to-use PNG files and editable Canva templates. I also included step-by-step instructions for customizing and printing the labels with Avery Design & Print.
For a cute Valentine’s gift, I paired the Heart Dish Scrubby with a heart towel and mini spatulas, then tied everything together with the scrubby on top.
The cute heart towels are from Crae Home, a small business founded by two moms. They’re made with highly absorbent waffle-weave microfiber, so they look great and work well for everyday kitchen use too. Grab some now and get 10% off — the discount will be reflected in your cart!
